Plaques have been used to mark the death and burial of people since ancient times. They have acted as a memorial and reminder to family, loved ones and the society in general of the life and importance of the deceased. Initially, they were made of timber, but, with the passage of time, materials with greater longevity, such as stone, were used. Today, while various materials are used, the most common materials used are bronze and granite. In order to further improve the longevity and beauty of plaques, Forever Shining is manufacturing a range of stainless steel plaques that will maintain their good looks and be readable virtually forever.
Our personalized plaques, made with passivated 316 marine grade stainless steel have been designed to overcome the problems experienced with current materials. Our stainless steel plaques will not deteriorate and discolour with the passage of time as do current bronze or granite plaques. Marine grade stainless steel and glass have proven long life characteristics. Our plaques are made with modern, stylish designs introducing more colour, glass and intricate designs than are currently available.
The inscription is laser cut through the front face of the plaque. Because the inscription is cut through the stainless steel face and not simply scratched on the surface it will be readable virtually forever. The inscription is backed by coloured glass which is also backed by a reflective medium. The reflective medium allows incident light to be reflected back through the coloured glass thereby producing an attractive effect. This type of construction is covered by Australian and International patents pending.
These plaques are available in many standard sizes as well as being available in custom sizes. A plaque can be supplied with or without a black granite or stainless steel reclining desk, bevel block or sloper. The reclining desk, beveled block and sloper can be supplied with or without flower vase holders.
A flush plaque is a plaque of the nominal size made of marine grade 316 stainless steel. The thickness of the face plate is 2mm for small plaques and 3mm for larger plaques. The plaque has an inscription of up to 60 characters included in the price of the plaque. Additional letters may be added to the inscription at additional cost, provided space is available on the plaque. The perimeter of the plaque is folded to produce smooth corners and rounded edges. The rear of the plaque is fitted with a stainless steel backing plate. Plaques are nominally 15mm – 18mm thick. There is a physical limit as to how small we can make the text on a stainless steel plaque. This limit is controlled by the DYO plaque program.
A flush border plaque is essentially a flush plaque with a repetitive pattern cut through the face of the steel around the outer edges of the plaque. The pattern is selected by the customer from the range available on the Forever Shining web site. The pattern is backed by glass of a colour nominated by the customer from the range of colours on the Forever Shining web site. The colour of the border may be different from those selected for the body of the plaque.
A raised border plaque is essentially a flush plaque that has been fitted with a raised stainless steel border approximately 30mm wide and 3mm higher than the face of the plaque. The edges of the raised border are folded to produce smooth corners and rounded edges. A pattern, which is selected by the customer from our available range, is cut through the face of the border. This pattern is backed by glass of a colour nominated by the customer from our available range. The colour of the border may be different from those selected for the body of the plaque.
Various cemeteries have different requirements and limitations on the size of plaques that they allow to be installed on their property. There is no reason why a Forever Shining stainless steel plaque cannot be installed in any cemetery or crematorium. Before an order is placed for one of our stainless steel plaques, these issues should be discussed between the customer and the cemetery or crematorium to ensure that the needs of all parties are satisfied.
Each customer has the opportunity to personalize the design and layout of their stainless steel plaque by using the exclusive plaque design section of our website.
Within this very simple design system, the customer selects their preferred plaque shape and size and then drafts their personalized inscription, nominates the colour and font type of the text from those available and uploads it onto their plaque design where the customer sizes and positions it to suit their design.
The customer may then upload a photo or photos of the deceased, one or more logos or other images onto the plaque design as a lifetime image, ceramic photo, laser etched granite inlay or laser etched granite overlay and or upload one or more images/art from the thousands of images in the Forever Shining web site library as a laser etched granite overlay or a laser etched granite inlay. Once again, the customer sizes and positions the images to suit their design.
In addition to these images mentioned above, the customer may also add one or more stainless steel motifs, glass backed motifs and raised glass backed motifs to the design, provided space is available on the plaque. The customer nominates the colour of the glass backed and raised glass backed motifs.

If there is a trade mark or copyright associated with an image or logo that is required on a plaque, please ensure that written permission for us to reproduce the image or logo is provided by the owner of the trademark or copyright and that permission is supplied with the order. The order will not be processed without that permission.
A beautiful and colourful stainless steel plaque is a joy to behold and is a permanent and lasting memorial to your loved one and a place for you and others to visit in the cemetery or crematorium to reflect on and remember the life of the deceased.
