Stainless Steel Headstones · Light Through Coloured Glass · Delivered Australia Wide
Stainless Steel Light Transmitting Headstones
Inscriptions cut through marine grade stainless steel and backed by coloured glass that daylight shines through, like stained glass in a chapel window. A headstone that will not crack, fade or weather, ever.
Even when life ends, hope remains, and a memorial that holds the light says that better than words. On a light transmitting headstone your inscription, motifs and borders are cut right through a face of marine grade stainless steel and backed by glass in the colour you choose. When the sun moves behind or above the memorial, daylight passes through the glass and the lettering glows like stained glass. The steel will not crack or be damaged by ground movement, the inscription never fades, and the whole memorial needs virtually no maintenance from those left behind.
Lit By Daylight
Light passes through the coloured glass behind the lettering, so the inscription glows as the sun moves through the day.
Marine Grade Steel
Made for salt air, rain and sun. No rust, no cracking with ground movement, virtually no maintenance.
Readable For Lifetimes
The lettering is cut through the steel itself, so it stays crisp and legible for generations without repainting.
Individually Designed
Classic or completely unorthodox: every headstone is designed around your inscription, motifs and colours.
How A Light Transmitting Headstone Is Made
Our artists lay out your inscription and motifs, then the design is precision cut through the stainless steel face. Glass in your chosen colour is fitted behind the cut-outs so that daylight can pass through, and the assembly is framed and finished by hand. The headstone mounts to a black granite or stainless steel base, with or without flower vase holders. Because the whole design is cut as one piece, you are not charged per letter: verses, long inscriptions and detailed motifs are simply part of the design. Prefer the glow of a mirror backed finish instead? See our light reflective headstones.

Cemetery Requirements
Cemeteries set their own limits on headstone sizes, bases and materials. Our stainless steel headstones meet Australian Standards, but check with your cemetery before you order, or send us the cemetery name and we will confirm the rules for you. In Perth we work to the Metropolitan Cemeteries Board requirements at Karrakatta, Fremantle, Pinnaroo Valley and the other MCB cemeteries; elsewhere we deliver Australia wide and work with your local installer. Trademarks, club crests and service emblems need written permission from the owner before we can reproduce them.
Light Transmitting Headstone Questions
What is a light transmitting headstone?
It is a stainless steel headstone with the inscription and motifs cut right through the steel face and backed by coloured glass. Unlike our light reflective range, the glass here lets daylight pass through it, so when the sun is behind or above the memorial the lettering lights up like stained glass.
What is the difference between light transmitting and light reflective?
Both are marine grade stainless steel with cut through lettering and coloured glass. In the reflective style the glass is backed by a mirror like medium and a solid steel backing plate, so it glows by reflecting daylight. In the transmitting style light passes through the glass itself, giving a softer stained glass effect. Which suits best depends on the site and the look you love; we are happy to advise.
How long will it last?
Stainless steel does not crack, flake or disintegrate with ground movement or age, and the glass is sealed within the assembly. The inscription stays crisp and readable for lifetimes with virtually no maintenance, which is the reason families choose steel in the first place.
How much does a light transmitting headstone cost?
Each headstone is quoted by its size and design. Build it in our online designer and press Check Price, or send us your wording and we will design and quote it at no charge. Inscription length and motifs are part of the design rather than priced per letter.
What sizes and shapes are available?
Widths and heights from 300 mm up to 1200 mm, in classic and contemporary shapes, supplied with or without a black granite or stainless steel base, and with or without flower vase holders.
Will my cemetery accept it?
Our headstones meet Australian Standards, but every cemetery sets its own rules on sizes, materials and bases, so check with the cemetery office before you order. Send us the cemetery name and we will confirm the requirements; in Perth we work to the Metropolitan Cemeteries Board rules and can install for you.
Prefer us to design it?
Send the wording, your photos and the cemetery name. We will design the headstone, price it and email you a proof at no charge.
