Laser Etched Marble Stone Portraits
Your favourite photograph burnt permanently into marble or granite at near photographic quality, as an oval or rectangular portrait ready to fix to a headstone, monument or wall. Preserved in stone, forever.
Would you like your favourite photo preserved in stone forever? With our laser we burn photographs into polished marble or black granite at near photographic quality: eyes, hair and even the weave of clothing come through with the softness of a fine pencil drawing. A stone portrait is its own oval or rectangular piece, so it can be added to an existing headstone or family monument, set into a new memorial, or fixed to a wall or plinth at home. Design it online with your own photo, or send the photo to us and we will prepare it for you.
Near Photographic Quality
Lasered at 200 dots per inch into the stone surface, capturing detail a chisel never could.
Marble Or Granite
Classic white marble or polished black granite, in ovals and rectangles from 125 x 175 mm to 600 x 600 mm.
Never Fades
The image is cut into the stone itself; there is nothing printed to peel, crack or fade outdoors.
Fits Any Memorial
Flat backed, ready to fix to an existing headstone, a new monument, a niche wall or a garden memorial.
How A Stone Portrait Is Made
Send us the sharpest photo you have, or upload it in the designer. Our graphic artists prepare it for stone: retouching creases and stains, lifting the subject from a busy background if you wish, and balancing the tones so every feature lasers true. Then the laser removes the polished surface dot by dot, turning highlights silver white while dark areas keep the depth of the stone.
You can add an inscription and motifs around the portrait, and choose an oval or rectangle in any size from 125 x 175 mm up to 600 x 600 mm. Every portrait is checked against the original photo before it leaves the workshop.
Top tip: original photos scan best at 300 dpi or higher. We accept PNG, PSD, JPEG and TIFF; 5 to 10 MB is plenty.

Stone Portrait Questions
What is a laser etched stone portrait?
It is a favourite photograph burnt permanently into polished marble or black granite by our laser, at near photographic quality. The portrait comes as its own oval or rectangular stone piece, ready to fix to a headstone, monument or memorial wall.
How detailed is the etching?
Our laser works at 200 dots per inch, fine enough to capture eyes, hair and the texture of clothing. Dark areas stay the colour of the stone and highlights turn silver white, so the finished portrait has the softness of a black and white photograph.
What sizes and shapes are available?
Ovals and rectangles from 125 x 175 mm up to 600 x 600 mm. Design any size in between online, and contact us if you would like something larger or a custom outline.
Will the portrait fade?
No. The image is cut into the stone surface itself, so there is no print, film or ink to fade or peel. Granite and marble stone portraits keep their detail outdoors for generations.
Can the portrait be in colour?
Laser etching is a black and white process with the fine shading of a pencil drawing. If you would like colour, choose a porcelain photo overlay instead: your photo is kiln fired in full colour onto porcelain in the same oval and rectangular shapes.
How do I attach it to an existing headstone?
Stone portraits have a flat back and are fixed with stone adhesive to granite, marble or concrete. They are a beautiful way to add a face to an existing headstone or family monument; masons and cemeteries fit them routinely, and we can advise on the right size for the space.
Prefer us to design it?
Send the photo, the wording and where the portrait will go. We will design it, price it and email you a proof at no charge.
