What changes the price

Size

Size is the biggest factor. Bronze is priced by area, so a 300 x 200 mm plaque costs about twice a 150 x 100 mm plaque, and a 500 x 400 mm plaque about twice that again. Check the size your cemetery allows before you choose, because many lawn cemeteries only accept one or two sizes.

Emblems, motifs and artwork

Standard motifs such as crosses, roses, doves and sporting emblems are included in the designer. A custom emblem, crest or logo can be cast in relief for a small extra charge, and we show that in the price before you order.

Photos

A full colour ceramic photo can be fitted to a bronze plaque as an extra. If a photo is the centre of the design, a laser etched black granite plaque often gives a better result because the portrait is etched into the stone at fine detail.

Mounting

Bronze plaques are supplied with fixing studs for a beam or desk. For Pinnaroo Cemetery in Brisbane and other cemeteries that ask for it, we mount the plaque on a 50 mm concrete block, which adds to the price and is shown in the designer.

Bronze or granite?

At the same 300 x 200 mm size, a cast bronze plaque starts around $1,048 while a laser etched black granite plaque starts around $577. Bronze is the traditional choice with raised lettering that develops a soft patina over the years. Laser etched granite costs less and reproduces photographs and fine artwork that casting cannot. Both carry our lifetime guarantee. See our memorial plaque prices page for every material side by side.

Cemetery fees on top

Every cemetery charges a memorial application or permit fee, and many lawn cemeteries charge a fee to fit the plaque to the beam. These fees vary from under a hundred dollars to several hundred, and they are paid to the cemetery, not to us. In Perth, the Metropolitan Cemeteries Board fee for a memorial application is $381 at the time of writing. Ask the cemetery office for its current fee schedule before you order, and we will size the plaque to its specification.

Ways to keep the cost down

  • Choose the smallest size your cemetery allows that still reads clearly. Our designer shows the plaque at true scale.
  • Use the included motifs rather than a custom emblem.
  • Keep the inscription to the essentials. Longer inscriptions do not cost more on bronze, but they force a larger plaque to stay readable.
  • Order early. Rush production is not something we offer, so allowing 8 to 12 weeks avoids paying for a temporary marker.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a bronze memorial plaque cost?

A cast bronze plaque from Forever Shining starts at $508 for a 150 x 100 mm plaque and $1,048 for the common 300 x 200 mm size, with delivery to mainland Australia included. Larger plaques up to 500 x 400 mm start at $2,403.

Why is bronze more expensive than granite?

Bronze is cast in a foundry from a pattern made for your plaque, then machined and finished by hand. A laser etched black granite plaque of the same size costs roughly half as much because the inscription is etched directly into the stone.

Does the price include the cemetery fee?

No. Every cemetery charges its own memorial application or permit fee, and some charge a fitting fee for lawn plaques. Those are paid to the cemetery. Our price covers the plaque, the proof, the artwork and delivery.

How long does a bronze plaque take?

Allow 8 to 12 weeks from proof approval. Casting, machining and finishing cannot be rushed without affecting the quality.

Can I add a photo to a bronze plaque?

Yes. A full colour ceramic photo can be fitted to a bronze plaque, or you can choose a laser etched black granite plaque where the photo is etched into the stone itself.
